What will we be learning in
​Mr. Decker's Reading class?
  • We will be reading various genres of literature and informational texts in class including, but not limited to...
    • Bud, Not Buddy / Wringer / A Wrinkle in Time / Refugee / The Watson's Go to Birmingham 
  • We will be focusing on reading terms throughout the year and will strive to be more comfortable with the terminology
  • We will use the stories read in class to help us:
    • Identify central or main ideas
    • Author's perspective, purpose, point of view
    • Setting and character development
    • Question, Visualize, Connect, Infer, Predict, and Conclude (QVCIPC)
  • We will realize the impact reading has on our everyday lives

Below is the format for our "Word of the Day" in class activity.  Students will be presented a new vocabulary word pertaining to Reading on Tuesdays and Thursdays and given time to complete the requirements.

Bud, Not Buddy Character Sketches

Students were asked to illustrate what they think the main character (Bud) might look like.  They were asked to describe some of the traits of Bud that they have gathered from the first four chapters of Christopher Paul Curtis's book, Bud, Not Buddy.  Below are some of the sketches.
